Under the Influence

(mature audiences)

In 2015 we created what was intended to be a workshop (9 performances over two weekends) of a new serial musical by Broadway lyricist Ernie Lijoi. However, we soon learned we had a successful show on our hands that would go on to win the 2015 Drammy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Actor in a Musical. So, we’ve “Trumped” it up, added some new faces, streamlined the designs, and we are proud to present Under the Influence: All Trumped Up.

An unapologetically feminist, irreverent musical that tackles the influences that surround all of us by examining our hero, Anita: Anita Drink, Anita Smoke, Anita Cup, whichever Anita she is that day. Whether it’s Juan Valdez pushing us caffeine, Barbie giving us body issues, some cartoon character pushing nicotine, or our local bartender sliding us another drink, we’re all under the influence of something… yes, even Jesus.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Written by Ernie Lijoi
with additional music by Kevin Laursen and Lawrence Rush
Directed, Choreogrpahed and Designed by Rusty Tennant and Sara Fay Goldman
Musical Direction by Matt Insley

Starring:
Ithica Tell as the Emcee
Sara Nightengale as Anita
Jessica Tidd as Woman
Ernie Lijoi as Man
Alec Lugo as Swing

Twisted

We all know the story of Aladdin, the plucky little street rat who makes good, despite the scheming of the evil Ja’far and his palace guards. But, what if that wasn’t the REAL story? What if the true hero of the story was a man who, despite all odds, sacrifices his reputation, his position, even the love of his life, all to save his beloved Kingdom? And, what if that man was none other than Ja’far himself?

Facing a dim-witted sultan, a corrupt system, a maddeningly silly Genie, a heartless thief, and an invasion from a neighboring kingdom, can one good man stand up to all this, and not get Twisted? Come find out in this rousing, raucous and randy musical comedy.
